A New QC Ordinance Supports Local Women Entrepreneurs…

Many well-loved homegrown brandsfrom small online shops for handmade goodies to successful makeup lines you can find in major mallswere founded by women, yet the stigma against women still exists, discouraging other female entrepreneurs from starting their own. To help them out, a local law in Quezon City was recently signed, and it’s meant to help support and promote the development of the city’s female entrepreneurs.

The Quezon City Women’s Business Development Council will be created under the Quezon City Women Entrepreneurship Ordinance of 2017. It will be responsible for the development of female-oriented programs, projects, activities, and events in areas related to business and career.

 

The ordinance also declares March as the official Quezon City Women Entrepreneurs’ Month, with March 8the same day recognized as International Women’s Daymarking the inauguration of the month-long celebration. A series of business and livelihood seminars for women will be conducted every year.

 

Signed by Mayor Herbert Bautista on March 20, the ordinance was authored by councilors Irene Belmonte, Lena Marie Juico, Elizabeth Delarmenter, Estrella Valmocina, Ivy Xenia Lagman, Marra Suntay, and Julienne Alyson Rae Medalla in 2017.
